The CCS Transportation Department mechanics have achieved a 100% New York State Department of Transportation inspection rate. For the 2021-22 school year, 69 inspections were completed and each one was perfect. Buses, unlike personal vehicles, are inspected twice per year by NYSDOT.
“This is a great achievement accomplished by the outstanding work of Head Mechanic Bill Casey and Mechanic Dan McDermott. This was made possible by executing the district preventive maintenance practices to perfection. The other factor contributing to this success is our leasing of school buses, which in the long term will reduce the age of our buses from 12 years to 5 years and reduce major maintenance repairs and subsequent expenses. The safe transportation of our students on a daily basis remains the department’s priority and CCS is accomplishing that goal with great success.”
Randi Sica, transportation supervisor
During inspections, everything is checked over, including brakes, steering, body condition, tires, glass, passenger cabin, exhaust and many other systems. CCS has a fleet of 31 buses, which are inspected by the district’s team each month. District vehicles drive more than 352,000 miles in a year.
Congratulations to the transportation department!
