The Board of Education appointed Kathleen Skellie the district’s new elementary principal during its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7. Skellie is replacing Jerry Gibson who announced his resignation in April.

Skellie is coming to Cambridge from the Ballston Spa Central School District where she is currently serving as the director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. In her role, she facilitated the review of the K-12 curriculum, implemented K-5 literacy and math programs, developed a K-5 coaching program, supported the expansion of community based Universal Pre-K programs, summer learning and enrichment programs.

“I am excited to be joining the Cambridge school community,” said Skellie. “I look forward to collaborating with this team of passionate, caring educators in our journey to grow opportunities for students and provide them with the best foundation for success. It is evident the school is the heart of the community and I am honored to become part of the community as the next Cambridge Elementary principal.”

As the elementary principal, Skelllie will oversee all programming for students in grades UPK-6, work with staff to develop and maintain curriculum based on the NYS standards, work with community groups and school organizations to further support all students, and develop an efficient and effective master schedule for all elementary students and employees.

Prior to working for the Ballston Spa Central School District, Skellie was a K-12 instructional coach for the Hudson Falls Central School District from 2016-2018 and she spent 22 years as a secondary English/Literacy educator, instructional teacher leader and literacy coach for the South Glens Falls Central School District. Skellie has a bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education from Siena College, a master’s in K-12 Literacy from St. Joseph’s College and a CAS in Educational Leadership/Administration from SUNY Plattsburgh.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Skellie as the next leader of Cambridge Elementary School,” said Ken Facin, interim superintendent of schools. “Mrs. Skellie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to lead our students, faculty and staff to ensure all students and their families receive the best educational experience.”

Skellie will assume her new role July 1.
