Come join the Transportation Department!

Throughout the year, the Cambridge CSD transportation team plays a crucial role in the success of our school district. Every day, the department works collaboratively to provide safe, reliable transportation for our students.

The district is fortunate to have a fleet of leased Thomas-built buses that allow our staff to drive top of the line vehicles which offer our students the latest safety features. The Bus Garage is a well-maintained facility that’s designed to support the transportation staff.

Safety is the department’s top priority. Drivers inspect their buses inside and out before each run. There are several layers of training associated with the job. The district provides paid training to its employees.

By the Numbers

  • School vehicles travel 340,000 miles per school year
    • Field trips and athletic events account for more than 15,000 of those miles
  • The department transports 640 students (79% of our student population)
    • School buses offer the safest form of transportation to and from school every day. We would love to add more students to our rider base!
  • 17 drivers, 10 aides and 9 subs

Transportation Staff Testimonials

“I first was a bus aide and was told that if I had even an inkling about driving the bus, I should get trained. I worried about driving in the winter but it was easy. I feel safer driving a bus in the winter than my car. You fall in love with the kids and they become very important to you. They are perfect hours if you have a busy schedule. It’s the perfect job.”
-Bev Harris, bus driver (6 years in the department)

“When I was talking about early retirement, I always thought this would fit perfectly. I have shorter hours, benefits and good wages. Everything seemed to fit my needs. We have great kids who are well behaved. You couldn’t work for a better place with a family atmosphere. Cheryl is a great boss. The training program is great. All of my coworkers are great people. There is not a bad thing that goes on here.”
-Mike Arnold, bus driver (1.5 years in the department)

“We take pride in helping one another and creating a supportive, fun atmosphere. There’s always time for laughter, teamwork and the kind of camaraderie that makes this job feel less like work and more like being part of something meaningful. I couldn’t be more proud of the work our team does every day. This is a place where people can find a rewarding career with great people, quality equipment and a positive environment. Our team is friendly, supportive and always ready for a laugh. It’s a great group to work with. Our newest staff members quickly become part of the family here in no time.”
-Cheryl Benson, transportation supervisor (15 years in the department)
