Cambridge Connections: Meet District Clerk Kate Canini

Kate Canini

What do you love most about working at CCS?

The sense of family and how everyone always steps up to help one another.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The fact that every single day can be a different day depending on what is happening in the district. I enjoy researching things and many days I get to dig into the history of the district by doing my job. I like having a variety of things to do and with this job I have that opportunity.

What are the top three items on your bucket list?

  1. Visit as many national parks as I can
  2. Own and operate a bakery food truck
  3. Get lost in a jigsaw puzzle or read a book without a care in the world.

What would students be surprised to know about you?

I started working for the school in 2005 as a 1:1 bus aide. I then took a position in a 6:1:2 special education classroom as a teacher’s aide. I was moved to study halls for a year or so and then from there I became a teaching assistant and worked as a 1:1 teaching assistant. In 2010, I took the position as the assistant to the superintendent/board clerk and have not had a dull day at the office since.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I really enjoy baking and cooking. I find it very therapeutic. I also enjoy taking time to go for walks, traveling and spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren.

What is some advice you would give to students?

Never give up, believe in yourself; you can do anything you set your mind to. The reward at the end is worth the effort.
