Board of Education appoints Mr. James Ducharme next Cambridge CSD Superintendent of Schools

The Cambridge Central School District Board of Education appointed James Ducharme the next superintendent of schools during a special meeting on Tuesday, March 25. Ducharme is currently the principal of Schuylerville High School.

“The Board of Education is excited to welcome Mr. Ducharme to the Cambridge Central School District,” said Board of Education President Shay Price. “Mr. Ducharme brings an impressive blend of qualifications, experience and perspective that we believe make him a great fit for the district and community. We look forward to partnering with Mr. Ducharme and welcoming his leadership to our team.”

The Board is offering Ducharme a three-year contract. He is expected to begin his duties on July 1.

The superintendent search process began in the fall and included a public survey, advisory committees and multiple rounds of interviews. Feedback was gathered from students, parents, community members and school employees.

Ducharme’s administrative career started in Schuylerville in 2015 as the assistant principal of Schuylerville Middle and High School. In 2017, he was appointed the principal of Schuylerville High School. In the spring of 2024, Ducharme served as the acting superintendent of schools for Schuylerville CSD. Prior to becoming an administrator, Ducharme’s education career began at Cohoes CSD where he served as a teaching assistant, school counselor and coach. In total, he has spent 21 years in education.

“Throughout my time at Schuylerville, I have been surrounded by a great team and together we have made amazing strides for our community,” said Ducharme. “I am truly honored and excited to serve as the next superintendent of the Cambridge Central School District. I look forward to partnering with the students, educators, families and community members to build upon the district’s successes and work together to create new opportunities for growth and achievement for years to come.”

Ducharme earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Albany in 2004. He continued his education at Sage Graduate School and earned a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling in 2006. Ducharme completed a graduate studies program in educational administration from The College of Saint Rose in 2015. He holds the New York State School District Leader Professional Certificate and completed the New York State Council of School Superintendents Future Superintendents Academy.

Ducharme will succeed Vince Canini who has served as interim superintendent of schools since February. He lives in Saratoga Springs with his wife Jennifer, son Trey and daughter Zoey. His interests include watching his kids participate in their numerous activities and spending time outdoors with his family.
