Board of Education


The Cambridge Board of Education consists of five members, each elected to a three-year term by the Cambridge community. This group of five individuals works together as one entity to carry out the business of the district.

Cambridge Board of Education meetings are generally held the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Secondary Library Media Center.

Board Goals

On Aug. 8, 2024, the Board adopted the following goals for the 2024-25 school year:

  1. The Board recognizes the important relationship between the school and greater Cambridge community and, to that end, the Board will seek to strengthen its relationship with the public and its programs for maintaining open channels of communication and good relations with parents, community organizations, the business and agricultural sector, and the community at large.
  2. The Board is committed to conducting an open, thorough and comprehensive search for a new school superintendent and will have a new leader in place by July 1, 2025.

Board Responsibilities

  • Ensure the education of all students
  • Financial oversight of the district
  • Establish policies for the operation of the district
  • Make decisions on personnel matters and recommendations from the superintendent
  • Adopt and approve the budget annually
  • Evaluate program effectiveness

Qualifications for Candidacy

Those who run for membership on the Board of Education must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States of America
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to read and write
  • Be a resident of the district continuously for one (1) year
  • Not be an employee of the school district

Nominating Petitions

Candidates must submit a petition to the district clerk signed by at least 25 qualified district voters. The petitions must include the following:

  • Candidate’s name and residence
  • Signature and residences of those signing the petition
  • Length of the term of office for which the candidate is being nominated
