A letter from Coach Luke to football families

Football players and parents,

I realize you still have weeks of summer vacation left, but I thought this would be a good time to start looking ahead to some important football dates. I encourage both the players and parents to read this letter.

July 10 – Aug. 14 – Weight Room (Mondays – Thursdays)
Mornings with Mr. Sausville (Mondays – Thursdays); Evenings (5:30 – 7:15 p.m.)
We have only a few players attending regularly. I encourage everyone (any grade) to attend.

July 22 – July 26 – Pee Wee Camp (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
There is a pee wee camp run by the varsity football staff. It’s a great way to meet the younger players and also gives them an opportunity to meet you. We invite you to come and help.

Aug. 13, 14 and 15 – Equipment pickup (6:00 – 7:30 p.m.)
All sophomores, juniors and seniors can pick up equipment on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Freshmen may pick up their football equipment on Wednesday, Aug. 14 in the gym. Thursday, Aug. 15 will be open for all players. If you can’t make it on these days, you can pick up your equipment on the first day of practice.

Aug. 9 – Get Together (grades 7 – 12) at Cambridge (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
The state has decided to start practices earlier this season, so instead of having our three-day camp, we’ll have a preseason football night. We’ll have the opportunity see who’s interested in playing football and discuss the necessary steps you need to take to prepare for the first day of practice. We’ll also play some 7-on-7 and follow that with some hamburgers and hot dogs.

FamilyID and Physicals
Mr. Lapitsky will be sending out information explaining the necessary steps to be ready for the first day of practice. They will include filling out the FamilyID form and getting a physical from your doctor or the school doctor. It is important to understand that if this is not done before the first day of practice, you will not be able to participate in practice and this will ultimately lead to the possibility of missing our first game. Players from Salem must go through the same process in your school. Please contact your AD to find out the dates.

Aug. 19 – Varsity and JV practice starts (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
We will meet in the weight room at 8:00 a.m. sharp. The first practice will be with helmets, practice shorts, practice shirts, no shoulder pads. If you are wearing new cleats, please bring some old spikes or sneakers to the practice field so you can change, if necessary. Blisters become a problem with new cleats and, if not cared for, will make practice very difficult.

Also, it’s extremely important that you make every practice. If you miss practices, you may not be able to compete in the first game. Practices will usually go from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Monday – Saturday). You are required to have 10 practices to compete in the first game. If you are going to miss a practice, make sure I know as soon as possible (a missed day of practice cannot be made up).

Modified Practice
Mr. Andrew and Mr. Rapp will be in contact with all modified players. Modified games will be played on Thursdays and will begin as close to 4:00 p.m. as possible. A schedule will be announced soon.

First varsity game: Sept. 7 vs. Delhi
All Saturday varsity games will begin at 1:00 p.m. All Friday night games will begin at 7:00 p.m. JV games will be played on Mondays and will start as close to 4:00 p.m. as possible (game schedules for all levels have not been made final at this time).
