When winter weather arrives, the Cambridge Central School District has established criteria for deciding whether to delay the start of school, close school for the day, cancel afternoon and evening activities or dismiss students earlier than normal.
When determining whether to delay or close school, the district’s transportation supervisor consults with the local and county highway departments to determine if the roads will be cleared and safe for travel. Travel conditions can vary widely across our district. Additionally, our facilities/buildings and grounds department determines if school parking lots can be cleared for buses and cars.
How Closings and Delays are Communicated
Cancellations, closings, delays or early dismissals will be communicated in the following ways:
- An email, text message, app notification and phone call will be sent via ParentSquare.
- An alert will be posted on the district website.
- Information will be posted on local TV and radio stations (and their websites).
Community members who wish to be notified but do not have a child attending school can sign up to join our community group on ParentSquare.
Please note, this information will not be posted on social media.
It is best to rely on more than one source of information when it comes to weather-related announcements. This is particularly true in situations that involve power outages, which can affect the district’s ability to send electronic notifications.
