The Board of Education appointed Pamela Bordas the district’s new director of pupil services during its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7. Bordas is replacing Kathy Fields who has been serving in an interim capacity since March.

Bordas is coming to Cambridge from the New York State Education Department’s Office of Special Education. For the last nine years, she has served districts in the WSWHE BOCES region assisting with compliance, improvement and best practices related to special education services. She has also supported students with disabilities and their families in meeting each student’s special education needs.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Cambridge school community,” said Bordas. “I look forward to working with and supporting students, families and staff in alignment with the district’s mission, vision and core values. I believe in providing all students with equitable learning opportunities that are both high quality and student-centered. I will work diligently with the staff, families and community to foster student success as our students develop skills and build a foundation that will serve them well beyond their time at Cambridge.”

As the director of pupil services, Bordas will serve as the chair of the Committee on Special Education, as well as the homeschool liaison and 504 coordinator. Additionally, Bordas will oversee all aspects of the special education program and work closely with students, staff and families to ensure all students receive a continuation of educational services.

Prior to working for the New York State Education Department, Bordas worked for a number of local school districts, including Granville, Greenwich and Hudson Falls.

“Ms. Bordas brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our district and we are fortunate to have her overseeing our special education programming,” said Ken Facin, interim superintendent of schools. “I look forward to her working with our faculty, staff and families to support the education of all of our students.”

Bordas will assume her new role June 3.
